Word of God. CTBI teaches that the Word of God is the Bible, and it's 66 books are inerrant in their original transmission and fully reliable in sound translations. Translations considered to be sound include the KJV*, NKJV, ASV, NASB, WEB* and the NIV**.

Scriptures: 2 Timothy 3:16, Hebews 4:12, 2 Peter 1:20-21

* CTBI uses the AKJV and WEB because they are public domain and are consistent with our philosophy that "freely we've been given, so freely we give."

** The NIV is less reliable in the opinion of CTBI because it casts doubt upon certain passages of Scripture by stating as such or placing them in footnotes. Example: John 7:53 - 8:11.

God (Father). CTBI teaches that there is only one God, who manifests Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God the Father is the first part of this triune God, who is the creator of all things, sovereign in His dealings with all of creation. He is the Father of those who believe in the one He sent: His own Son, Jesus Christ.

Scriptures: Matt 28:19, Gen 1:1, 1 Chron 29:11, John 1:12

God (Son). CTBI teaches Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the second part of the triune God, and is fully equal with the Father. He created all things by the will of the Father. He was sent by the Father to come and save us by sacrificing Himself on the cross for our sins. This is the kind of love God has for us.

Scriptures: John 1:1, John 10:30, Col 1:15-17, 1 John 4:10

God (Holy Spirit). CTBI teaches that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the triune God. He was promised by the Son and sent by the Father to come into the world to build the body of Christ and to convict the world of sin. He is the one who comes into a person's life and regenerates and seals them into a child of God.

Scriptures: Matt 28:19, John 16:8-13, 1 Cor 12:13, Eph 1:13

Man. CTBI teaches that man was created in the image of God for the purpose of fellowship with God and bringing glory to Him. As the result of sin, man fell from his position before God and became an object of wrath and an enemy of God. God's judgment for this has been physical and spiritual death. Man is unable to save himself from this judgment without the grace of God as revealed in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Scriptures: Gen 1:26-27, Gen 2:15-17, Isaiah 43:7, John 3:36, Romans 3:23

Salvation. CTBI teaches that a person is saved wholly by the grace of God. Even the faith which saves them is given by God. Since we are saved by the grace of God, there is nothing which can be or needs to be added to the grace of God.

Scriptures: Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:5, Galatians 3:2-3

The Church. CTBI teaches that all who place their faith in Jesus Christ's finished work on the cross are placed in the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit. This corporate entity is also called "the church." This is also known as the "universal church." The universal church is organized into local churches. Jesus Christ is the head of the church.

Scriptures: 1 Cor 12:13, Col 1:18, Acts 14:23

Last Things. CTBI teaches that Jesus Christ will return for His church at an unknown day or hour to "resurrect" or "rapture" all believers, whether dead or alive. On this very day, the wrath of God will break out on all those who have rejected Christ and have taken the mark of the beast. Jesus Christ will return to earth with His saints and Christ will then rule 1,000 years on earth. After this time the final judgment of all unbelievers will be completed.

Scriptures: Matt 24:32-39, 1 Thess 4:16-18, Rev 16:1-2, Rev 19:11-14, Rev 20:4-5, 11-15

Headship. CTBI teaches that Christ is the head of every man and that the man is head of the woman. As Christ willingly submits to the Father though not inferior to Him, so should the woman to the man, though she is not inferior to him. The man is therefore the head of the home and also in the church. This headship was started by God in the beginning when He created man first and then the woman to be his helpmate.

Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 11:3, 1 Corinthians 14:34-35, Genesis 2:20-23, 1 Timothy 2:11-14

Angels. CTBI teaches that angels are spiritual beings created by God and serve Him. They are involved in the affairs of mankind as God directs. Though noncorporeal beings, they can take human form for God's purposes. There are also angels that have rebeled against God, their leader being Satan. He and his horde of "demons" are opposed to God and do all they can to pervert the truth and prevent the Gospel from being proclaimed. Their doom is sure and foretold.

Scriptures: Luke 2:13-14, Hebrews 1:6-7, Daniel 10:10-13, Matt 25:41, Isaiah 12:13-15, Revelation 20:10

Word of God

Back

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2 Timothy 3:16

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

2 Peter 1:20-21

1 Chronicles 29:11

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Col 1:15-17

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Matthew 28:19

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

John 16:7-13

For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Man

Back

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Genesis 1:26-27

And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Genesis 2:15-17

Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.

Acts 14:23

Last Things

Back

Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Matthew 24:32-39

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

Revelation 19:11-14

And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Revelation 20:4-5, 11-15

Headship

Back

But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

1 Corinthians 11:3

Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

1 Corinthians 14:34-35

And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

Genesis 2:20-23

Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

1 Timothy 2:11-14

Angels

Back

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Luke 2:13-14

And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.

Hebrews 1:6-7

Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

Hebrews 13:2

And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

Daniel 10:10-13

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Matt 25:41

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

Isaiah 14:12-15

And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

Revelation 20:10
